What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm is a filler derived from hyaluronic acid. There are several types of this gel-based filler designed for use in different locations on the face. There are specific Juvéderm formulations for the area around the mouth, including the lips and surrounding tissue and other formulas designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose.
All current Juvéderm injections contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort during the treatment process. Including lidocaine in the injection itself removes the need for a separate topical or injectable anesthetic or numbing agent.
Is Juvéderm safe?
Juvéderm received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in 2006. Today, Juvéderm is the most popular dermal filler on the market. When injections are performed by a trained, qualified provider, Juvéderm is considered safe for most patients.
What is Juvéderm Used For?
Juvéderm is a dermal filler with many uses. There are four different formulas designed for use on certain areas of the face or to accomplish specific appearance goals.
Juvéderm can successfully reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, add volume to your lips, add volume to your cheeks and soften the vertical lines that appear around your lips.
How many units of Juvéderm do you need?
The number of units of Juvéderm needed varies depending on the area being treated and your needs and goals. Juvéderm is priced “per unit (per syringe),” so it is logical to wonder how many syringes you may need to achieve the desired effects.
The best way to determine the actual number of units you will need is to schedule a consultation with our skincare professionals at Clique Med Spa. They can review your goals and provide a more precise estimate of the total units needed based on your specific needs.
As previously mentioned, the number of units you might need will depend on the area of the face you are treating. Generally, one unit per side is required to add volume to the cheeks or reduce the appearance of nasolabial (between the mouth and nose) folds.
Similarly, one syringe per side is typically needed for marionette lines (the lines between the mouth and chin) and to reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. One syringe total can often achieve a fuller appearance of the lips.
How much is Juvéderm?
The total cost of Juvéderm treatments will differ from person to person. Again, the area being treated, the specific formula used, and your specific needs will impact the final cost.
However, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery notes the national average cost for Juvéderm injections is around $600 per syringe. However, it is essential to note that the average cost varies based on your geographic location and your provider, in addition to the factors listed above.
What are the Five Main Benefits of Juvéderm?
There are several benefits to Juvéderm fillers. However, some benefits or advantages are more notable than others. The five main benefits of Juvéderm noted by most patients include:
- Juvéderm is minimally invasive
- Juvéderm can safely address multiple treatment areas
- The procedure is quick, as are the effects
- Juvéderm produces natural, organic-looking results
- The results of Juvéderm treatments are long-lasting
How Long do Juvéderm Lip Fillers Last?
As various filler products improve and formulas advance, the longevity of injectable procedures improves as well. Juvéderm XC formulas designed for use on the lips generally last between six and twelve months. However, some patients find their results last for up to two years.
The fillers are derived from hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in the body, and therefore, the body will metabolize (break down) the fillers over time. In some cases, you may find that maintenance treatments help maintain specific results throughout the year. As every patient is different, your skincare professional at Clique Med Spa can help you determine the best frequency of treatments for you.
Is Juvéderm Better than Botox?
Juvéderm and Botox are effective treatments used to minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Although both treatments have similar effects, they achieve their goals in different ways. Juvéderm is made from hyaluronic acid designed to “fill” your wrinkles from under your skin’s surface.
There are several different Juvéderm formulas designed for various areas on the face. Results from Juvéderm treatments are usually instant, and the treatment process is quick with long-lasting results.
Botox is also a non-invasive wrinkle treatment; however, Botox is made from the neurotoxin botulinum. Instead of “filling” wrinkles, Botox relaxes the facial muscles to make wrinkles less noticeable.
Botox injections are also completed in just a few minutes. However, it can take up to two days for results to appear. The effects of Botox injections generally begin to fade faster than those of Juvéderm making follow-up appointments necessary in three to four months.
The question of which type of injection is best does not have a single answer. Many factors unique to the person suggest what kind of injectable treatment can best achieve your goals.
