What is Microneedling?

When home skin products are no longer proving effective, but you aren't ready for surgery, try nonsurgical procedures for skin rejuvenation, such as microneedling with the SkinPen®. Registered nurse Racheal R. Santarpia is happy to offer microneedling (collagen induction therapy) at her practice in Lakeland, FL. SkinPen is an FDA-approved microneedling device that uses several fine-gauge needles to safely and effectively make micro-injuries in the skin. The micro-injuries prompt the natural production of elastin and collagen, two nutrients that improve the appearance and health of your skin. Easily performed with other skin treatments, such as vitamin-enriching serums, exosome infusions, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), microneedling can help reduce pores, scars, and stretch marks. Schedule a consultation at Clique Salon and Med Spa to learn more about the results of microneedling and how to customize your procedure for your needs and goals.

What Are the Benefits of SkinPen Microneedling?

At Clique Salon and Med Spa, our team suggests SkinPen microneedling for our patients who have a need for the following benefits:

  • Safe, minimally-invasive treatment option
  • Minimization of scar tissue, dark spots, or stretch marks
  • Improved texture and tone of skin
  • Reduced aesthetic of loose skin, fine lines, and age

Am I a Good Candidate for SkinPen Microneedling?

You could be an ideal candidate for microneedling with SkinPen if you have light or mild complexion problems, like rough skin texture or low elasticity. Microneedling treatments can also improve the look of scars, pores, and stretch marks. You should be willing to wait to see benefits from your microneedling treatment since the elastin and collagen require time to have an effect on the skin; however, you will develop results that look natural and gain healthier overall skin.

what to Expect from Microneedling

Collagen induction therapy with SkinPen microneedling is performed in one of our office procedure rooms in 30 – 60 minutes. Nitronox Plus®, a safe and effective sedative or a local numbing cream, is available to help make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Our expert team can help you decide which method is best for you. The areas of skin being treated will be cleansed before the SkinPen handpiece is evenly passed over. After the microneedling is done, a topical treatment, like PRP (platelet-rich plasma), a vitamin-infused serum, or exosome therapy, which is a contemporary regenerative treatment that improves cell performance, may be applied for deeper penetration of the nutrients into the skin. A moisturizer will be massaged in along with UV protection, because the treated skin will be sensitive following the procedure. You can expect results in three treatment sessions that may last up to six months.

What Can I Expect After SkinPen Microneedling?

Following the procedure at Clique Salon and Med Spa, you might develop mild swelling and redness for about one day, but this should fade naturally. It may take around 1 – 2 months as the elastin and collagen levels increase before you see significant improvements in the appearance and health of your treated skin. You should plan to get around 4 – 6 follow-up sessions every 4 – 6 weeks for the best outcomes and long-lasting skin health.

Microneedling FAQ

How much does microneedling cost?
In your initial consultation, Racheal Santarpia will analyze your skin and then create your unique treatment plan. From there, She will be able to talk about your costs and what to expect during the procedure. Clique Salon and Med Spa frequently has discounts on skin treatment packages, so be sure to ask about our current deals during your consultation.

What exactly is microneedling?
Collagen induction therapy or microneedling is a nonsurgical procedure to rejuvenate your skin. A natural fibrous protein, collagen helps your skin stay supple, smooth, and firm. As you get older, your supply of collagen are depleted and your skin gets less elastic and thin. Microneedling casues small wounds in your skin. These micro-injuries cause your skin to increase its collagen production and generate new skin cell growth. Once healed, your complexion appears healthier, firmer, and brighter.

Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
In the process of microneedling, channels are made that help other treatments to reach the lower layers. That's why microneedling is frequently done with other skin treatment, like vitamin-rich serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling plus PRP is more commonly known as the vampire facial. During your consultation, Racheal Santarpia will talk about which treatments may be performed along with microneedling and which best fit your skin goals.

How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Usually, patients get 3 – 6 treatments to get optimal results. However, the number of treatments you need will depend on your goals and the condition of your skin. Microneedling may be safely done every 4 – 6 weeks. During your consultation, Racheal Santarpia will estimate the number of treatments you will want after assessing your skin and listening to your goals. When your skin goals are reached, Racheal Santarpia suggests getting touch-up treatments every six months.

Is microneedling safe for everyone?
On the whole, microneedling is appropriate for all skin tones and types. Since the skin injuries created are so small, there are usually no side effects afterward. Microneedling can be performed on most areas of skin, including the face, neck, arms, chest, and legs. Microneedling isn't recommended if you've taken Accutane in the last few months, plus if you have an active skin infection, herpes simplex, or open wound. Additionally, you might not be able to get microneedling if you're pregnant, nursing, or undergoing radiation treatments.
